Welcome to St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Stratford, ON the Avon

A Brief History

St. Andrew's is the oldest church in the city of Stratford with a current membership of more than 300 communicate members and more than 100 adherent members.

Using the services of itinerant ministers, early settlers started holding services prior to 1837. The first minister, The Rev. Daniel Allan was hired in October 1838. The congregation held worship services in a log schoolhouse.

The land was secured for a building in January 1839, and the first church was erected during that year.

In1868, the small frame church was replaced by a Gothic structure, which now houses the Christian Education wing.

On April 12, 1911, the congregation declared itself in favour of building a new church that would sit 650 to 700 people. It was dedicated September 15, 1912.

In 1950, the church tower was replaced with a cottage roof.

In the summer of 2001 the Sanctuary was revamped making a comfortable sitting arrangement for 500 people.

The manse was built in 1907.
