Listowel was faced with a brand new team to the league for their 4th game of the season. Listowel finally had the home team advantage over Livingwaters from New Hamburg. Livingwaters scored four runs in the first inning. How was Listowel to answer? With 13 players on the score sheet tonight we had to take our turns. The first 9 scored! In the 2nd inning they scored another five! Livingwaters decided to answer back with two more in the third and kept Listowel from scoring. The fourth inning brought more runs for both teams -- Livingwaters scored four and Listowel three. The fifth inning was shut out due to great defense from both teams. In the 6th inning, another lone run from Livingwaters and 3 from Listowel were scored. Livingwaters scored 2 more in the 7th. The game ended after the 8th inning due to a time limit. The final score was 20 - 13 for Listowel! Thanks to our great group of fans that came out to support us! MVP of the game goes to Wendy. Wendy got home all 4 times she was up to bat! Congratulations!
On June 4th Listowel was slotted for the late game in Newton against Avon. With Listowel being the home team Avon was up to bat first. Both teams had great defense and no runs were scored until the bottom of the 3rd when Listowel mercied Avon. Listowel scored seven runs! In the fourth, Avon scored a run. Avon was hungry for more runs and received four more in the 7th. Listowel needed to clean up their act. Avon now scored another in the top of the 8th bringing the score to 7- 6 for Listowel. Listowel was feeling the pressure. Listowel scored 7 more runs bringing the inning to a close. Avon just couldn't get it together in the 9th inning and the game was over with the win going to Listowel. MVP of the game goes to Teresa who was the only person to get on base every time she was up to bat.
Listowel was now up against a very competitive team on June 11th. Defense was on their mind. Listowel was the home team so Mapleview was up to bat first. No runs were score for both teams in the first. In the 2nd inning Mapleview scored two. Listowel just could not get their bats going! A three run home run for Mapleview in the third brought the score to 5 - 0 for the visiting team. One more run was scored for Mapleview in the top of the 4th inning. Listowel was in need of a run. Teresa pulled through! Listowel had great defense but runs kept slipping by. The final score was 11 - 1. In previous years Listowel has lost 32 - 10, 36 - 16 and 24 - 12. Great defense Listowel! Teresa was awarded the MVP for her lone run! Also special thanks to Mary for filling in!
With three wins and two losses, Listowel was now against the Runts on June 18th playing the late game under the lights in Newton. In the bottom of the 1st the Runts scored two. Listowel tried to answer back but left Michele on third in the 2nd. In the third inning, Listowel scored 4 putting them in the lead. The Runts would not let that inning go unanswered and scored 8 more. Listowel scored 5 in the top of the 4th and brought the score within one run. In the bottom of the 4th the Runts still had their bats going and scored 6! Listowel needed the runs and Michele was not left on third yet again as Wanda batted her in! The Runts wanted it more and scored yet another seven runs that inning. It was the top of the batting order for Listowel which brought Cheryl up to bat. Teresa hit a great triple and scored Cheryl. Listowel shut out the Runts in both the 6th and 7th innings. In the top of the 8th Cheryl and Bonnie both scored! The Runts got another home run in the 8th inning. Listowel was still hanging on but could only score Jessica in the 9th bringing the final score to 24 -14 for the Runts. MVP of the game was Cheryl getting home 4 times!
Listowel is now a .500 team with 3 wins and 3 losses! Poole was the next opponent to play at the late game in Newton on June 25th. Listowel was the visiting team and up to bat first with another full batting order of 13! Four runs were scored in favor of Listowel! Poole was hungry to do the same but Listowel's defense was tough and kept them in the lead. Amy started off the 2nd inning with a solid hit. Amanda was awarded a RBI with Amy scoring off of her hit! Poole was ready to turn up the heat in the bottom of the second inning scoring 7 runs bringing the score to be in their favor. Listowel needed to answer back and scored another 3 which put the score at 8 -7. Poole scored 6 more in the 4th and merced Listowel in the 5th. Listowel was in trouble. No more runs were scored in the 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th innings of the game and the score was left at 20 - 8 for Poole. Listowel MVP was Brenda for her power hits, two runs and getting on base all four times she was up to bat!
On July 2nd Listowel played Riverdale. With Riverdale up to bat first, Listowel got 3 batters up, three batters out! Wendy was the lone run scored in the 1st inning for Listowel from a triple hit by Teresa! Riverdale scored one run in the second inning. Both teams had great defense in the third with no runs scored. We were all tied up at 1 until the bottom of the 4th when Teresa scored off of Amanda’s double! In the bottom of the 5th inning, both Wanda and Bonnie scored bringing the score to 4 to 1 for Listowel! In the bottom of the sixth Cheryl and Amanda scored off hits by Tracy and Kathy! Way to go Listowel. Riverdale decided that something needed to be done and they score only a single run in the 7th inning bringing the score to 6 to 2. Riverdale was not going to give up quite yet and score 6 runs in the top of the 8th. Listowel wanted the win and answered back with a 3 run home run by Tracy! Now the score was 9 to 7! Listowel took the field in the top of the 9th and had yet another great inning with 3 up, 3 down! Way to go Listowel with a 9 - 7 win! The MVP of the game goes to Tracy with her three run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning!
In our next game against Wellesley we had the fewest players all season. We had a roster of 9! With the weather not knowing what to do, we took the field bravely and decided to test our fate with the rain. It had been a while since we played in Millbank so we had to readjust our thinking and fielding. With this in mind we took our defensive positions and no runs were scored in the 1st for both teams! In the top of the second, Wellesley decided to get the ball rolling and scored two. Listowel answered back with Michele, Jessica and Bonnie all scoring! This gave Listowel a one run lead. With the clouds rolling in and lightning in the distance, Listowel took the field. Wellesley mercied Listowel, scoring 8 runs. Listowel needed to get those bats a swingin'! Three up, three down! Oh no! This did not look good for Listowel! Wellesley was up to bat again! Seven more runs were added to their score! Listowel was down and needed those runs! In the top of the 4th Jessica got the bats started and hit a single. Bonnie was next and hit a single. Wendy stood at the plate and hit a single as well. Next up was Janel. No outs, three people on base. Janel hit a double and the rain came down! Everyone left the field due to a rain delay. After waiting about 20 minutes for the rain to subside and the field slowly began to dry, we decided to continue our game! Listowel felt that they were finally on a roll. With increased energy, Teresa was up to bat and hit a single, scoring Wendy! Unfortunately Listowe'ls luck ran out. Wellesley was up to bat and Listowel wanted to make a game out of it! Listowel's tough defense dug in and Wellesley did not score! The score seemed big, 17 to 6 for Wellesley, but Listowel was not going to give up with their tiny squad. In the bottom of the 5th Kathy was up to bat first and hit a single. Jessica also hit a single and put herself on base. Bonnie hit a single which now put three runners on. Teresa came through and hit them all home on a double! Unfortunately Wellesley still wanted to score and added another run in the top of the 6th. Listowel answered back with a single run from Amanda. The score was now 18 to 10 for Wellesley. With Listowel being the home team, they got last bat. So up went Wellesley and Listowel's defense was great! Three up, three down! It was now Listowel's turn but Wellesley was too tough and won! Great effort on Listowel's part for only having 9 players! This weeks MVP award went to Jessica. Jessica scored 3 out of her four turns at bat! Way to Go!
Listowel's tenth game of the season was against the new team to the league, Livingwaters. Listowel felt back at home playing in Newton again with a full roster. Listowel was the visiting team and was up to bat first. Listowel put their first four batters all the way around the bases with a grand slam by Teresa! Livingwaters answered back with three runs of their own. Listowel started off the inning with Jessica up to bat first hitting a single. Next up was Michele and she also hit a single. Listowel was at the top of the order and again loaded up the bases for Teresa to hit us home! Six runs were scored that inning bringing the score to 10 - 3 for Listowel. Livingwaters decided to put a stop to Listowel's runs in the 3rd and left Mary on second. Livingwaters was up to bat and scored 4 runs bringing the score a little bit closer than Listowel wanted. With only three runs separating the teams, Listowel scored another three to double their lead. The 5th inning was unsuccessful for both teams. In the sixth inning both Janel and Teresa scored. Livingwaters also scored 2. In the top of the seventh inning Listowel was up to bat. Amy was our first batter and hit a single. Listowel brought in another 5 runs that inning making the score 20 to 9 in their favor. Livingwaters was now hungry for runs, but could only score one. Listowel decided that two more runs, one from Amanda and one from Jessica should be enough. The final score was 22 to 10 for Listowel! The MVP of the game went to Janel with 4 runs scored on 6 at bats! Special thanks goes to Mary for helping us out!
On July 23rd Listowel was up against Avon. With Listowel being the visiting team, they were up to bat first. Listowel was also short one player so they decided to call upon Charlotte Horton. Listowel scored four runs at their first at bat. Avon scored zero. Listowel was shut out in the second, third and fourth innings. But Avon scored seven runs! Listowel needed to keep going, but was feeling the lack of energy that our missing players posses! With Tracy up to bat first and eventually scoring off a hit by Amanda brought the score to 7 - 5. Listowel was within reach. Unfortunately, Listowel's defense was broken and Avon scored 3 more in the bottom of the 5th. Listowel needed their bats and were at the top of their order. Cheryl started us off with a single hit and was safe. Tracy then could not leave her mother stranded and hit her home. Avon was up to bat in the bottom of the 6th and scored another 5. The score was not looking good for Listowel, 15 to 7. "Let's get those bats moving girls" was said by a fellow player and motivation was starting to pick up. Unfortunately Listowel could not get through Avon’s defense and was shut down with three up, three down! Listowel thought to themselves that they can do this too! Listowel took the field and three runs were scored against them. "Come On Listowel, Let's do this!" With this being said Amanda was up to bat first and hit her first home run! Way to go Amanda! Well we had to keep the ball rolling now. Energy was picking up and Cheryl, Janel, Brenda, Tracy and Charlotte all scored. Was it enough? Listowel was short 6 runs and lost, 19 to 13 against Avon. Listowel MVP was Amanda with her first home run in the top of the ninth! Congratulations Amanda. Next time we'll make sure we have runners on base for you! Also a special thank you to Charlotte for helping us out on such short notice!
Listowel now had 5 wins and 6 losses and was up against Mapleview on July 30th. In the top of the 1st, Teresa hit Wendy home to score and Amanda hit Teresa home. Mapleview also brought in two. In the second, Brenda was our only run. Defense was on Listowel's mind. Mapleview scored 7, bringing the score to 9 - 3. Listowel tried to get things going in the third but was shut out. Mapleview scored another 6. Listowel didn't get frustrated though and scored a lone run in the 4th. Tough defense was handed out to Mapleview and they didn't score in the 5th inning. Good inning girls! "Let's turn this game around" echoed through the dug out, but Listowel just couldn't get those hits. Mapleview was up yet again and scored another 5. The score was out of reach for Listowel, but they never gave up. In the 6th they started to get their bats going, but just couldn't cash in those runs that were left on the field. Listowel needed defense and handed it right back to Mapleview. No runs scored! Unfortunately Listowel just could not muster up enough strength to score any more runs and Mapleview won 24 to 5. Good try Listowel. We can't win them all. MVP went to Amanda who was the only person to get on base all four times she was up to bat and scored a run!
With only two games left in the season, Listowel was in a two game losing slump and wanting to finish with being a .500 team. Listowel needed to win the next two games! The Runts were the next team that Listowel took on. Listowel was the home team and took the field. No runs were scored! It was Listowel's turn to swing those bats. First up for Listowel was Bonnie with a single hit. Next up Wendy with a single as well. "Let's score these runs girls" was said from a team member. Teresa was due for a home run and that's exactly what happened. Three runs for Listowel in the bottom of the 1st inning. The Runts had to answer and scored two. Listowel wanted to maintain the lead, but was shut out. Listowel and the Runts had great defense in the 3rd inning. In the bottom of the 4th, Listowel scored two more from Amy's second double of the night. In the fifth the Runts wanted to get in on the action as well and score 2 runs which made the score 5 to 4 for Listowel. In the sixth inning, the Runts scored another to tie the game. Kathy was up to bat in the bottom of the 7th inning and hit a double. Who was going to hit her in? Amy came up to bat and cashed in Kathy to make Listowel ahead by one. Listowel needed tight defense, but unfortunately the Runts score another run in the 8th and 9th innings. Close game Listowel! MVP of the game went to Kathy for scoring two runs!
Listowel's last game of the season was on August 13th in Newton against Poole. With the biggest roster yet of 13 players, Listowel needed to be patient with each other. Listowel took the field and shut Poole down in the 1st inning. Listowel was now up to bat. Three runs were scored. In the second, Poole scored 2, bringing the score within one run. Listowel was up to bat in the middle of their batting order and scored five runs! Poole answered back with a single run. Listowel was eager, but Poole shut them down in the bottom of the 3rd inning. Listowel did the same in the forth. Listowel wanted the runs and scored another 3 bringing the score to 11 - 3 for Listowel. Listowel dug in with their defense in the 6th and no runs were scored against them. Listowel wanted to widen their lead and 5 more runs were brought in! Poole played tough in the seventh and scored 3 and shut Listowel out by leaving the bases loaded. In the top of the 8th inning, Listowel had a three up, three down inning! Listowel decided that we needed two more and scored. Way to go Listowel, 19 - 7 win to finish the season! Wendy was named MVP of the game. She scored 4 out of 5 times at bat!
