Mennonite Central Committee Heifer Sale
The annual MCC heifer sale was a success! $185 000 was raised for Mennonite Central Committee (MCC). It was held on February 22, 2008 at David Carson's auction facilities in Listowel.
It is an annual event to attend for anyone who has with dairy cattle or livestock or is interested in unique, handcrafted items from the country.
What is the MCC Heifer sale about?
Dairy farmers all across SouthWestern Ontario donate heifers to be auctioned off to the highest bidder, with 100% of proceeds going towards relief programs run by MCC all over the world.
Along with dairy heifers, there are always intems that are donated to be auctioned. Most items are livestock related, but there are some unique articles such as a hand carving of a true type cow by Harold Erb. There is also a homemade wagon and harness pulled by a team of horses that Eli Martin builds every year.
How Can I Participate?
Of course, attending the auction is an excellent way to contribute! Since all proceeds of the auction go directly to MCC's relief efforts, each purchase you make helps someone in need.
If you would like to donate, but don't need a heifer, you have options:
Cash donations are always accepted. Other accptable donations include dairy heifers, unique handcrafted items, or livestock-related tools and memorabilia. You may also buy a heifer and donate it directly back to the sale to be auctioned off again!
