Kim Phuc Comes to Listowel
The Listowel presentation was also given in conjunction with IN Network, a Christian mission organization that works in developing countries around the world, including Vietnam.
The North Perth Ministerial Association sponsored Kim Phuc’s visit. Proceeds from ticket sales went to the North Perth Community Hospice.
Pastor Rob Gulliver of the Listowel Evangelical Missionary Church said having Ms. Phuc bring her message of peace and forgiveness to the community was important. “Through many conversations and prayer, we really felt this had to happen tonight,” said Pastor Gulliver.

Ms. Phuc said Vietnam has changed somewhat since her childhood, but many difficulties still remain. “The look is better, but of course I still saw a lot of people who were really poor who are struggling with jobs and life,” she said, adding that some aspects of a market economy are beginning to develop there. “They’re allowing a lot of foreign companies to go back to work in Vietnam,” said Ms. Phuc.
Religious freedom for any faith in Vietnam is however still quite limited due to communism. “They’re not open completely yet, actually, I know that the missionaries are still not open in Vietnam yet,” Ms. Phuc said.
Ms. Phuc is also the head of the Kim Foundation, and organization dedicated to helping children around the world who are victims of war. “I want to give back in the same way that people helped me 35 years ago,” she said.
