Easter and the Passion

He loved me enough to take a beating and an uncalled for killing to save my life. AND HE DIDN'T EVEN KNOW ME!!!!! I know Him and if there is one person's footsteps I want to follow, it's HIS! Won't you join me?

Then Jesus told his disciples, “If any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake will find it. For what will it profit them if they gain the whole world but forfeit their life? Or what will they give in return for their life?”
-Matthew 16:24-26 (NRSV)

When Mel Gibson's "The Passion of the Christ" was released into movie theaters, my wife and I went to see it. Watching it the first time, I found it to be a bloody, painful and unnecessary torture and murder of an innocent man. A carpenter, unskilled in law or religion, expressed his opinions on life and death.

As with most good movies, I bought it when it showed up on store shelves. Just before Easter last year, I watched it for the second time. My eye caught something that was missed the first time.

When the Messiah is being flogged, I found the forgiveness of my sin on His body among the blood and torn skin. I found the reason to live my life; not for my own sake, but for the sake of Jesus.
