I can haz car?

Oh yes I can! Now that Derek is driving this here behemoth (ignore the dust), the PT Cruiser is mine, all mine!!! He got a promotion at work that includes a company car, since he will need to visit clients. For the moment they have him in a Pontiac Montana. We picked it up at the dealership a week ago Saturday. He's hoping to replace it with a Pontiac Vibe when the 2010 models come out. (His company has completely used up its allotment of 2009 Vibes, unfortunately.) Admittedly, this beastie will be handy for picking up stuff from Home Depot, and it's not quite as bad on gas as we would have expected.

But what I am loving the most is the freedom to take myself to and from work, run errands, visit friends... Now I can sleep in almost an hour later in the morning when I am working, fit in a workout on the elliptical to START my day (which I much prefer over working out when I get home), and still get to work for 9:00 a.m.! I am finding myself energized at work, enjoying my job more, getting stuff done. And then I can leave at 5:00 instead of waiting for my ride!

It's been a fantastic week. There's a breath of spring in the air and I think it's getting me high! (Look, bare ground under the van, not snow and ice!) On Tuesday evening I went out for supper with Stickyfingers before we headed to the K-W Knitters' Guild meeting, then went and out for a bite with my knitting crew afterward, without having to organize a ride with Derek. Other days, I picked up cat food, stopped at the bank, bought a couple of groceries and a new corded home phone (our old one died and I feel more secure knowing we have a phone that works in power outages if our cellphones aren't charged)... I love it!

In other news --

Knitting: Currently working on a Noro Striped Scarf in Kureyon Sock and Silk Garden Sock. I have named it the Obsession scarf, as I am already nearly done after just one week. The Yarn Harlot was right, once you start, it's almost impossible to stop. I swear the thing practically knits itself.

Also, on Monday I finished making myself ChicKnits' Mondo Cable vest out of Cascade 220 Quatro gifted to me by Trillian42 last year. Just need to do a photo session with one of our two new digital cameras (the old one is on its last legs, and there have been some awesome sales on lately), then I'll be able to blog it soon. Thanks again for the yarn, Pam, it was a joy to work with, and made for a very pretty FO, in my opinion.

Watching: Doctor Who -- currently on season 2 (edited: David Tennant, not Neil Tennant... sheesh, I'm watching Doctor Who, not listening to the Pet Shop Boys!!). Loving this more than I would have expected.

Listening to: CBC in the car while driving myself around. I am turning into a CBC junkie. I never used to feel this way when I was younger, but now I absolutely adore it.

Reading: I finished Khaled Hosseini's A Thousand Splendid Suns a little while ago. I am recommending it to all and sundry. What an amazing book. Best thing I've read in ages.

Cooking: I made a really tasty (if slightly overbaked -- I think my pan was too wide/shallow) fruit & nut loaf yesterday (Mollie Katzen's Apricot-Almond Bread, substituting 1/2 cup dried cranberries and 1/2 cup chopped dates for 1 cup of the apricots, and using 1/2 whole wheat flour). I then negated any nutritional value it might have had by whipping a tub of mascarpone cheese with a scant 1/4 cup of maple syrup (maybe less -- I didn't measure, just eyeballed it) to use as a topping. My MIL Shirley said the topping "would make cement taste good." Yeah, I'd say that was a hit. I'll be doing that again for sure! Mmmm, cheeeeese....

Happy Family Day to my friends here in Ontario! What a brilliant thing, having a day off in February...

Fantastic! What a great thing to have - cars make life so easy!!

A Thousand Splendid Suns is next on my list. I have it in hardcover, so I'm saving it for when I'm home rather than traveling!

YAY for Dr Who! I'm already upset that David Tenant is leaving next season -- I love him SOOOOOOO! And the new doctor looks so young. I can't wait to rent and watch through them, then onto Torchwood... yay!

I think we should book a March get-together... any thoughts on a good weekend for you?
