Ode to Amy

Amy Singer, editor of knitty.com and author of several knitting pattern books, spoke to the K-W Knitters' Guild last night. (That's her in the middle.) She gave a fantastic talk about her new book, No Sheep for You, and showed off the beautiful garments knitted from silk, soy, cotton, linen, hemp, bamboo, and other non-woolly wonders featured within. (She's allergic to all animal fibres.) I bought the book and got it signed, and I look forward to knitting several of the patterns in it over time.

I'll admit, I'm a little jealous of her, as I continue working for "The Man." Amy was able to quit her day job last year to devote herself full-time to designing, blogging, editing, and writing and about her passion and mine: knitting. Still, she richly deserves the success that has come from the last four and half years of hard work. She's an inspiration. She gives me hope that one day, I too may find career satisfaction!

What a great pleasure, then, for me to finally meet the visionary behind my favourite online knitting magazine and forum. Thanks to Knitty, her "baby," I've improved my skills, found beautiful patterns to knit, and most importantly, through the Knitty Coffeeshop, I've met friends, like Lynne (on the right) -- etcgirl on the boards. The scarf I'm wearing is knit from yarn handpainted just for me by Raeknits_and_spins, one of my previous knittyboard secret pals. My life would be so much poorer without Amy's brainchild in it. How lucky I am, to have gotten the chance to thank her in person!

I completely forgot about that yarn! I'm so glad you were able to make something lovely for yourself with it, and it is lovely! And, lucky you, meeting Amy! J.E.A.L.O.U.S!
