My first cables!
Who said you shouldn't knit cables in black yarn? I think they show up beautifully! This is my first cable project, Knitty's Coronet, knit in Rowan Cashsoft. It was a birthday gift for my friend Tanya. (Only a year after I promised it.) This yarn and hat were a pleasure to knit, and the pattern is both clever and well-written. However, for some reason, this project seemed cursed to be knit and knit and knit again! I ripped out part of the cable band because one of the repeats was too long by two extra rows and I couldn't stand to leave it alone. Then when I knit the body of the hat, I discovered just as I was about to start the decreases that I had picked up 20 stitches too few (64 instead of 84) -- no wonder it was awfully snug. Riiiiiiip again. I managed to drop three stitches in the final decrease round and had to re-knit the decrease section. Finally, as I was darning in the ends, I had just cut the yarn tail from the top after weaving it in... only to discover to my utter horror and dismay that I had not tied it off, and it started unravelling! So again I reknit the decrease section. You bet I tied that sucker off three times before weaving in this time! Sheesh. Still, it's a gorgeous hat and I think it's going to look great on my friend.
