Enjoy a weekend of fiddling and stepping in the town of Tavistock, Ontario.
Long known for our hospitality we extend to you a special invitation to join us again in Tavistock. Bring your family, friends, fiddles and shoes. Camping conveniently located on the grounds surrounding the arena. There is plenty of space (park-like setting) for the Fiddle Park right next to the new arena, with showers and change rooms accessible from the Fiddle Park.
The 27th annual Southwestern Ontario Fiddle and Stepdance Competition was held on Friday and Saturday, July 2 and 3, 2010, at the Tavistock and District Recreation Centre, 1 Adam St. Tavistock.
We had made some changes for the 2010 contest. The Friday evening preliminaries started at 6:00 p.m. this year. Our Junior Duet Fiddle Class age requirement for competitors is now aged 15 and under.
Once again we ran a variety show at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday at the pavilion which was hosted by our very own Larry Stacey.
Quehl's of Tavistock continued to provide a buffet-style roast beef dinner from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. Our ever-popular Gospel Breakfast took place on Sunday morning from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the pavillion.
The 2010 Southwestern Ontario Fiddle and Stepdance Contest judges were as follows. The stepdance judges were Kelli Trottier, Tiffany Fewster and Jenny Stacey-Maclean. The fiddle judges were Doug McNaughton, Dan Stacey and Shane Cook. Our house musicians were Mathew Johnson was our house fiddler, Melika Lemelin and Jake Charron were the pianists. Judy Waymouth was our emcee.
