Enjoy a weekend of fiddling and stepping in the town of Tavistock, Ontario.
Long known for our hospitality we extend to you a special invitation to join us again in Tavistock. Bring your family, friends, fiddles and shoes. Camping conveniently located on the grounds surrounding the arena. There is plenty of space (park-like setting) for the Fiddle Park right next to the new arena, with showers and change rooms accessible from the Fiddle Park.
The 29th annual Southwestern Ontario Fiddle and Stepdance Competition will be held on Friday and Saturday, June 29th & 30th, 2012 at the Tavistock and District Recreation Centre, 1 Adam St. Tavistock.
We had made some changes for the open dance finals at the 2011 contest. The committee has decided to continue trying to raise the bar for the Open Stepdance finalists by challenging our competitors on the Saturday evening show/finals. All Open Stepdance finalists will be required to use the House Fiddler for the finals on Saturday evening. Each contestant will select a sealed envelope containing their tunes (Clog 32 bars, Jig 48 bars, and three Reels 32 bars each). The contestant will write their name on the chosen envelope along as any speed requirements and if an extra beat (shot) is required. No communication between the House Fiddler and the contestant will be allowed.
NEW!! Come One, Come All!!!...to a jam session, uniting competitors & fellow campers in an Epic event, kicking off our competition. The Wedding Bell Jammin' session will be held in honour of the upcoming wedding of Dan Mighton & Kelsey Verch...Champion fiddler & stepdancer! Bring your dancing shoes, your musical instrument, chairs and beverages, and join in the fun on Friday, June 29th from 2-4 p.m. under the pavillion!
Once again we will be running a variety show at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday at the pavilion to be hosted by our very own Larry Stacey.
Quehl's of Tavistock will continue to provide a buffet-style roast beef dinner from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. Our ever-popular Gospel Breakfast takes place on Sunday morning from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the pavillion.
